Day 99

After today's series of events I feel as if the Universe twisted me up and turned me inside out. But all is well.

I suppose the kind of day I had only happens once in a blue moon.

Day 97

Almost to 100 days. How time flies.

Lately I've been devouring the late summer's bounty of locally-grown heirloom tomatoes. Today while shopping for more of these juicy beauties, I discovered a heart.

Yes, I bought it. And I will devour it, covered in aged balsamic vinegar and Maldon sea salt flakes. Then I'll go for a walk.

Day 96

Had a few obstacles thrown my way today.

But, chin up. No matter what.

Day 95

The humpback whales might have moved on to deeper waters, but there are plenty of new adventures on the horizon. I don't actually know what they are yet, but I'll trust the Universe to reveal them to me in perfect time.

Today I engaged my core muscles in the challenging adventure of Pilates. One slow crunch at a time.

Day 94

This morning brought even quieter skies and waters to the Port San Luis Harbor in Avila Bay. I didn't see any whales or many pelicans, but managed to capture a few of the regulars that hang out at Harford Pier. A few of these feathered friends looked like they were jumping for joy.

Looked like great exercise to me.

Later in the afternoon I headed to Morro Bay for a walk on the beach. I thought I glimpsed a whale breaching in the distance, but I can't be sure. I did capture several interesting birds, who were out foraging in the surf and turf on this stunning summer day.

Day 93

I woke up at the crack of dawn to foggy skies, and soon after headed south for some exercise.

After a walk on the sand in Pismo Beach, I drove towards Avila Bay to see if I could glimpse the humpback whales again.

Standing at the end of Harford Pier in Port San Luis Harbor with a good-sized crowd of other early onlookers, the still, quiet waters showed no signs of the colossal mammals. But balletic seals and dolphins graced the waters, while a slow, steady stream of pelicans danced over the ocean, streaming high above the sea.

I've visited this pier several times over the past week, but the same destination can bring new insight. There's something to be said for silence.

These pelicans floated in unison across the sea.
Dolphins glided in the harbor this morning. Look closely and you can spot the fin.

Day 92

Walked and stretched today. Recharging for a weekend that will (hopefully) be filled with whale and dolphin sightings in Avila Bay. Here's a brief clip of the humpback whale and rainbow I caught on camera earlier this week at Port San Luis Harbor.

Day 91

I'm tired, but my 30+ minutes of exercise is logged for the day. I didn't have time to snap any new photos after work today, but here is some rough footage that I captured of the blue skies and pelican dive-bombs I witnessed in Avila Bay on Harford Pier a few days ago.

Love these feathered creatures.

Day 90

I'm taking a break from whale watching in Avila Bay until the weekend.

After all, real life happens. Errands need to be run, dishes loaded, laundry washed, and food cooked. And let's not forget the 30 minutes of exercise each day.

But yesterday's incredulous afternoon of events will tide me over for a few days. After all, it's not every day that while standing on the end of the Harford Pier in Port San Luis Harbor a  humpback whale swims by in plain view.

Here are a few still images that I created from the video I captured on the pier yesterday.

Magnificent creature.

Day 89

Today was incredible. Long, but amazing. I hope you will read all about it here.

I still need to get in 15 more minutes of exercise; perhaps my yoga/stretch dvd will be just what I need.

After all, bird and whale watching in Avila Bay takes a lot of energy.

Day 88

My exercise mat is laid out on my floor. I still have several more minutes to log for my day's huffing and puffing.

Too bad the invasion of the pterodactyls in Avila Bay today at Port San Luis Harbor couldn't take the place of me actually moving for myself. Just watching these pelicans made me tired. They fell from the sky...

Day 87

Today I got my exercise walking up and down the Harford Pier several times in Avila Bay at  Port San Luis Harbor. You can read the full story here, or you can meditate on the pelicans below.

Day 86

San Luis Obispo woke up to blue skies hidden by opaque white fluffs of cloud coverings, which resulted in humid conditions for most of the day.

Not complaining, though.

Day 85

When you need some big answers, look to the sky for a little inspiration.

Day 84

Taking a walk soon to recover from getting caught up in a SLO vortex today.
Wish I could have captured a picture of that.

Day 83

Walking in my neighborhood over the past several weeks, I’ve witnessed the succession of life.

Growing wild, several clusters of thorny, brambled berry bushes—speckled with hundreds of tiny green buds, each one bursting open at its own pace to reveal gentle petals and protective coils that eventually bare humble-size sweet berries that morph from green to red, then finally to purple—have come to life throughout the summer season.

This delicate transition of blossom into fruit reminds me of the intricacies of the Universe. Another SLO season comes to an elegant finish.

Enchanting, really.

Day 82

Before summer ends, buy a sprig of flowers and add a splash of bright colors to your surroundings.

Their ephemeral petals don't last long, but that's all the more reason.

Day 81

Looking forward to stretching and strengthening both my body and mind this evening.

Need a little of both to keep myself moving forward.

Day 80

My legs are sore from exercising. I must be doing something right.

Days 78 & 79

Warning: Convivial family events can lead to lack of exercise and over-consumption of food and alcohol. But Friday night should be fun and I'm A-OK with the mere10 minutes of exercise I logged on my 78th day of the 100 Days Challenge.

Day 79 was a different story: hot and sunny. My long walk along the Lemon Grove Loop on San Luis Mountain helped my weary body sweat out toxins and get the blood circulating to my brain again. Not exactly fun, but vital nonetheless.

My throat felt as parched as these cacti that grow on San Luis Mountain.

Time to hydrate.

Day 77

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

Sometimes you just have to go with your groove.

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Day 76

Today I logged in far less than 30 minutes of exercise. But sometimes life, exhaustion and volunteer work take precedence.

I give myself permission to breathe...relax...recharge.

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Day 75

My simple two cents: Find something that inspires you and immerse yourself in it for at least a few minutes each and every day.

What a difference.

Day 74

Today I experimented with a chicken parmigiana recipe. Really can't complain about the end result.

I feel the same way about exercising every day. Can't really complain about the results so far.

Day 73

Today's walk was all about bright sun, fresh air and a winding hike along the open space trail at Johnson Ranch, located just outside of San Luis Obispo City. Amidst the the tall dry grasses that cover the hills and stand irresolute against the wind, I discovered pops of bright summer colors here and there.

Day 72

Today I attended an event for a friend who is truly loved. As friends surrounded her and she reunited with family that she hadn't seen in far too long, I thought about the blessings in our lives. Good food, good company, thoughtful minds and hearts.

How wonderful to witness the authentic connections that one person can develop over time.

Day 70

This evening I slugged to the top of Islay Peak in San Luis Obispo. My personal feeling is that no matter how arduous your day, if you have the opportunity to hike to the top of a hill for a beautiful sunset...go for it.

Day 69

There's a brilliant moon waning over San Luis Obispo this week. I snapped this photo at dusk today in the Edna Valley region. Later in the evening when I took a walk, my camera created its own version of the moon, leaving me with a heart.

My camera also produced this better-known shape of the moon, but I prefer the enchanting distorted silhouette above.
